Spangdahlem Saber Cycling

Riding and racing.

Just wanted some opinions on the new bike I'm trying to piece together.  Ive been doing some research, but being a rodie I dont know too much about mt bike parts so I figured I'd ask what your preferences are.  Right now I have a bunch of xt parts along with all the odds and ends (seat post, stem, ect....) and a 80mm manitou minute for a shock.  I need a frame to put all of it on (I would like to finally make the transition to dual suspension), a set of new wheels and new disc brakes.  Im looking to spend around 2500.  So let me hear what you guys prefer for racing xc.

I'm not the expert--that said, I think most full suspension frames are for 100+ mm of travel. Not really sure if it would have any kind of weird impact on the geometry or not (never tried it). Not sure what to recommend for wheels, frame and brakes...everyones will have an opinion. Unless I'm after a specific frame, I usually like whatever's on sale! Check pricepoint.com. Here's what I got from there:

http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/19994-115_AVDE50-3-Parts-158-Brake... $130

here's a decent build kit from Jenson:

Frame on sale size jumbo:

Just some options.

I am less an expert than Hector. I think that Titus is a good buy. Also I have done a bit of wheel research lately because I was in the market. I think the most popular wheels right now are the Mavic Crossmax SLRs; they run around $1000. I became a member of www.promotive.com and got a nice discount on the crank brothers cobalt xc wheels. I paid just under $700. I read a lot of reviews before I bought them. They are as light as the SLRs, have a sturdy design, and are tubeless ready. Avid and Formula 1 brakes get the best reviews of anything I have read. Also SRAM just released a group last year (SRAM XX) which is more like a road setup. Double chainring on the crank and 10 speed cassette on the rear. They also make brakes for that group which have gotten high marks.

Thanks for the input so far. I decided to stick to hardtail (http://www.mtbr.com/cat/bikes/xc-hardtail/leader-bike/ld-526h/PRD_4...) and picked up a set of avid elixer cr brakes. Still researching wheels. Im looking at DT swiss hubs on mavix 819 tubeless rims. Im a little lost on the tire selection though. Just wondering what works for you guys racing in the area. Also are we going to be getting some kenda tires in any time soon? Cant wait to get this bike together I have a feeling its gonna be fast! :P

I have tires for you. I'm running the Karmas. Francesca loved them last year so I thought I'd try them out. I see why she likes them so much. If you're not into the Karmas, I can order something for you.
